Wheeler - Thomas Earl

Thomas Earl Wheeler, a Junior in the New Market HS was killed
and five of his companions were injured in an automobile accident
last Wed. evening about 1 3/4 miles SW of New Market. According
to information disclosed, the boys had eaten at a New Market Drug
Store following the ball game and prior to their going home had
decided to take a joy ride in the country. The car which was
driven by William Cedars, 18 of Alamo, and according to him was
driving about 45 miles per hour when the car got off to the side
of the road and struck the concrete abutment at the end of a
culvert. The car was completely demolished with the front end
resting on the fence at the side of the road and the rear was
caught on the abutment when officers arrived at the scene. The
Wheeler boy, age 16 died at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon in
Culver hospital from a fractured skull. Young Wheeler was born in
Osman, ILL July 25, 1926 the son of Robert E. and Dora Burnham
Wheeler and for a number of years had attended the New Market
school. Surviving him are the parents 11 brother and sisters and
four grandparents. Funeral services were held for the lad Sunday
at the Christian Church.
