Wheat - Mary Hester

Word has been received here of the death of Miss Mary Hester
(Hettie) WHEAT, a former teacher in Waveland, Wednesday May 1 at
Richland Washington in the home of a nephew, Jonathan M. Rigdon
with whom she had lived; since last October. She had been in failing
health the past 3 years. Born in Mo, the daughter of Milton and
Mary Talbot Wheat, Miss Wheat came to Crawfordsville with her
parents when she was a child. She attended the Crawfordsville
schools and taught at Waveland School 5 years. Miss Wheat operated
a direct mail advertising business in S t. Louis, Missouri for several
years. She returned to Crawfordsville in 1946 after retirement
and had lived there until last October. She was an active member
of the 1st Methodist Church in Crawfordsville. She also was
active in the League of Women Voters. Survivors include a
brother, Charles Wheat of Yakima, Washington; a sister, Mrs. Margaret
Rigdon of Richland, Washington; and two cousins, Mrs. Mae Talbot and
Mrs. Ethel Sparks of Crawfordsville. She was preceded in death by
four sisters. Funeral services were held Monday at First
Methodist Church followed by burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, Rev.
Donald McMahone was the officiating minister. - typed by kbz
