Lowell E. West, 67, of 2009 Leaf Drive, former Crawfordsville businessman, died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday in Harvey, Ill., Hospital. Mr. West had owned West's Supermarket from 1947 to 1970. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was graduated from Gary Emerson High School and attended the University of Michigan. Mr. West was born on March 13, 1906, at Montpelier, Ohio, the son of Paul and Grace West. He married Irene Ashton on April 14, 1928. She survives. Also surviving are his father of Clermont, Fla.; two sons, Lowell Thomas of Merritt Island, Fla. and John of Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Swarat of Zionsville; a brother, Richard B. of Clermont, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Traver Hartill of Richton Park, Ill., and five grandchildren. Mr. West was preceded in death by a son, Steve. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Little officiating. Entombment will be in the Oak Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
