Wemken - Dean Harold

Dean Harold Wemken 89, Vallejo, California and formerly of Mellott, Crawfordsville and Hillsboro died Nov 23 in his residence. Mr. Wemken was a shoe salesman and department manager at Albert's Department Store (Mervyn's) at Napap for several years. He worked for Vallejo Transit Lines, Blue & Gold Fleet on the Vallejo-to-San Francisco ferry service and was a bus driver. His memberships included Hillsboro First United Methodist Church; Retail Clerk Union Local 373 for more than 40 years, where he served many offices including president and business agent before retiring from the union in 1978; United Way Board member; Napa-Soano Boy Scout Council board member; Central Labor Council; Moose Lodge life member and Elks lodge. He was a 1932 Mellott HS graduate. He served in the Navy at Mare Island navel Shipyard where he helped build ships for WWII. He was born April 23, 1915 at WHite Hall, Ill to John and Gladys Nesbit Wemken. He married Lola B. Julian April 1, 1963. She died in 1976.
Survivors include one son, Charles (Jill), Vallejo Calif; one sister, Marion Parker, Veedersburg; two granddaughters, one grandson and two great grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled 1 p.m. Saturday in Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro with Rev. Linda Lawler officiating. Burial will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
