Weliever - Emma Lou

Emma Lou Weliever of Darlington died at 4:29 AM Friday, January 6, at Bickford Cottage in Crawfordsville after a 7-month battle with cancer. She was 83.
Emma Lou was born February 10, 1928 in Darlington to John Maurice and Fern Young Vannice. She attended Darlington schools where she was a cheerleader with several of her life-long Darlington friends, graduating in 1946. She attended Indiana University majoring in Pre-Law until she married Donald Harry Weliever of Darlington in 1948. They were married for 57 years until Don's passing in 2005. Together, they wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona, for 17 years.
After her youngest of four children started school in 1967, Mrs. Weliever was named librarian at the Darlington Public Library. She received her certificate in Library Science from Purdue. She remained librarian until her retirement in 1990.
Emma Lou was active in school, church and community affairs. She was a long-time member of Darlington Methodist Church Circle IV and church choir. She was active in both women's and couple's bridge clubs and garden club. She was an avid supporter of her children's extracurricular activities.
She is survived by a sister, Pearl Vannice McDonald a brother-in-law, James Weliever and her four children: Steve (Elogene) Weliever of South Dakota, Stan Weliever of Palm Desert, California, Sabra Weliever of Indianapolis and Stu (Carolyn) Weliever of Crawfordsville. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends can pay their respects Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday with Pastors Bryan and Maureen Langdoc officiating, followed by a brief graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington.
