Weir - Kenneth

Kenneth L. Weir, 48, who retired from the Crawfordsville Fire Department last October with 14 years of service, died Tuesday in Culver Hospital after an extended illness. Weir attended Basic Fire School at Purdue University and completed numerous special training sessions. Much of his advance training had been with fire extinguishers and he was listed as the fire department’s specialist in that area while he was on duty. Weir also operated a fire extinguisher business. He held the rank of chief inspector at his retirement. He was a member of Milligan Memorial Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge 50, Scottish Rite, Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge. He was graduated from Crawfordsville High School. Born Oct. 22, 1928, he was the son of Albert and Hazel Weir. He was married in 1948 at Chicago to Mary Holman. She survives. Other survivors are two sons, Dennis and Derrick of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Michele, at home; and three sisters, Mary Decker of Crawfordsville, Ruby Sellers of Indianapolis and Opal Cathy of Detroit. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Chaplain Sam Peck and the Rev. Stanley Hall officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. – jlr
