Laura Webster, 85, of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday morning at Franciscan Health.
Mrs. Webster started teaching in Nappanee, then for a year at Darlington, took a few years off while her children were young, and then went to work at Waynetown Jr. High, teaching home economics. She taught many junior high students how to sew on buttons, make cookies and mind their manners, retiring after 32 years.
She was a member of Liberty Chapel and the Ladies Aid, Linden Eastern Star, was a 4-H leader and member of the board for 4-H, Inc. She was a founding member of the Montgomery Co. Cattlewomen’s Association and past president of Montgomery Co. Homemakers Association. She was also a member of the Near and Far Home Ec Club, and considered the members to be her closest friends. She loved to garden, cook and sew.
Born July 26, 1935 in Linden, she was the daughter of Frank McBee and Leona Byrd McBee. She graduated from Linden High School in 1953 and Purdue in 1957, later earning a Master’s degree from Purdue. She married Robert “Bob” Webster on June 7, 1959 in Linden. She was devoted to him, taking care of him for a long time. He passed away March 23, 2016.
Surviving family includes: son, Rob Webster (Jodi), Crawfordsville; son, Denny Webster (Kris), Crawfordsville; daughter, Dena Reichart (Ron), Lafayette; son, Mike Webster (Dorita), Dayton, Virginia; six grandchildren, Ty, Tanner, Drew, Todd, R.J. and Katie; four great-grandchildren, Tatum, Pierce, Karsyn, Ramsie; brother, Jerry McBee (Nancy).
