The following obituary of Jereome Watson, a former resident of this city is taken from the Frankfort Banner: “The attack of pneumonia, which visited Jerome R. Watson, about a fortnight ago, culminated on Saturday evening in his death. Like many hundreds of other boys in blue, the exposure of army life weakened his vitality and he was poorly equipped for a contest with any serious ailment. His family and friends have consolation in knowing that he was conscious to the last and while “life’s fitful fever” went out on the peaceful bosom of a Thantopsis, the last farewells in the hour of dissolution where those freightened with Chrisitan resignation and evidenced a heroism that did not shrink from crossing that mysterious river of Death, whose pilot touches every home. Mr. Watson was born in Crawfordsville in 1837 and attained his majority there. He was an officer – a lieutenant – in the 116th Indiana, and served during the conclusion of the war. He was married to Sarah E. Suit, a sister of Judge Suit in 1865. He leaves a widow, but no children. With the exception of a short residence in Missouri, he has made his home in thi8s city. He was both a brick mason and printer, a man of industrious habits. - kbz
