New Market, April 27 – Joseph Watkins, a respected farmer, died at his home near here Saturday morning after a brief illness. He leaves a wife and 10 children, besides a host of friends to mourn his loss. He has lived here all his life and was esteemed by every one that knew him. He was 71 years of age at the time of his death. The funeral was held at the home Sunday at one. The interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Joseph Milton Watkins was born July 16, 1842 and died April 25 at the age of 71 years, 9 months and nine days. He was born and reared in Montgomery County and with the exception of one year spent all his life on the farm where he died. On September 5, 1875, he was united in marriage to Marcia Bailey and to this union three children were born. After the death of his first wife, he was married to Anna H. Johnson August 16, 1882. Seven children blessed this union. The widow and seven children survive. Mr. Watkins was a well known citizen of the county and was respected by all who knew him for his honesty of purpose and his fairness in dealing with others. The strongest interest he had in the world was the welfare of his family and he counted no sacrifice too great if it only added to their happiness and progress. - kbz
