Another of the valiant soldiers of 1812 has gone to the land of rest and peace. The venerable George Watkins died suddenly, but apparently without pain, on the morning of November 9, 1865, at the residence of his son-in-law, J.H. Harrison, Esq, in Walnut township, Montgomery County, Ind, in the eighty-first year of his age. Mr. Watkins was one of the noble band that defended our country in the War of 1812, has been long and well known as a loyal citizen of our county. Community has thus suddenly been deprived of one of its oldest and most worthy members; and the ME Church of one of her communicants of fifty-five years standing – Joseph White -- kbz
