Mrs. Alice VanSlyke Warriner was born in this city, Jan. 1, 1855, and died Feb. 2, 1896. She was the oldest child of Wm. H. and Lila Ornbaun VanSlyke. She leaves a husband, father, mother, brother, three sisters and three stepsons to mourn her loss. She was a good, devoted wife, a loving daughter and sister, and a kind and gentle mother. At the age of 13 she became a member of the First M. E. church of this city, and at the time of her death was a constant attendant of the St. Paul M. E. church of Lincoln, Neb. She was member of Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge No. 13, of this city, for a number of years until her marriage in 1890, at which time she withdrew her membership and placed it in the Lincoln lodge of the same order. She was also a member of the Woman's Relief Corps. The following is from the Lincoln, Neb., Journal: The funeral of Mrs. Alice Warriner occurred Monday at 2 p. m. from her late residence, Twenty-sixth and Holdrege street. Rev. Dr. Lasby preached the funeral sermon at the residence. Two hymns were sung as requested by the deceased, "Rock of Ages" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul," after which the remains were taken to Wyuka cemetery for interment. At the grave the beautiful funeral ceremony of the Daughters of Rebekah was carried out. "Nearer My God to Thee," was sung by request. Several of the W. R. C. were present and assisted in the ceremonies. Mrs. Warriner was a member of both the above named organizations. -- transcribed by Kim H
