Darlington – Alva C. Warren, 68-year-old Darlington merchant died Thursday afternoon in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital at Lafayette.  He had been a patient there five weeks.  Mr. Warren had operated an appliance store here since 1945.  Prior to that he operated a store at Crawfordsville from 1934 until 1940. Before 1934 he was employed as an auto salesman.  Born Nov 15, 1897 in Montgomery County, he was a son of Elijah and Katherine McMurray Warren.  He was married June 8, 1918 to Thelma C. Cook. They were married at Linden.  A resident of Darlington since 1921, he was a member of American Legion Post 302 here. Mrs. Warren had an extensive wartime service record.  He served in the Mexican border in 1915 and during World War I in France.  Afterward he served with the Indiana National Guard and during World War II served in Europe before being discharged as a Lt. Colonel.  Survivors include the widow, two sons, John C of Linden and Damon C. of Darlington; two daughters, Mrs. Harold Vaught of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Byron Gunn of Greenwood; three sisters: Mrs. Florence Clark and Mrs. Charles Oakley of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Raymond Clements of Logansport and a brother, Walter S. Warren of Akron, Ohio.
