Rachel Jane (Bratton) Ward, daughter of Charles L. and Catherine Bratton, was born Dec. 9, 1865, on a farm near Crawfordsville, and passed away June 29, 1926, in the Cass county hospital at Logansport, aged 60 years, 6 months and 20 days. She was the youngest child of a family of ten. She was married to Joseph A. Ward Sept. 13, 1887, at her home near Crawfordsville. She and her husband resided on her father's farm five years and then moved to the present home in Cass county, March 1, 1892, from which place her husband preceded her in death August 17, 1922. She united with the Union Presbyterian Church at an early age in her home neighborhood, bringing her letter with her to Cass county. She united with the Union Presbyterian church in Washington township. She leaves behind to mourn their loss, four daughters, Fern B. HENRY of the Salem neighborhood; Esther M. KLEPFER of Galveston; Myrtle June and Frances Ellen, at home; two grandchildren, Wendell Ward Klepfer and Colleen Jeanette Klepfer; two brothers H. B. Bratton, who resides at her home, and O. W. Bratton of Crawfordsville, and many friends and neighbors who will long remember her for her many sterling qualities. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, July 1, at the M.E. Church at Lincoln, Ind., conducted by Rev. Filer of the Presbyterian Church assisted by Rev. Garrison of the Lincoln M.E. Church. Interment took place at the Galveston cemetery.
