Don’t let me fall, Jake; I’m going!”
These were the last words uttered by Mrs. L G. Ward and were addressed to her brother, Jacob Raub, who was standing by her, side in the yard at the Ward home at Elston Friday morning at 8:30 o’clock. Mr. Raub returned Thursday night from the Dakotas where he has located a claim. He and his sister were talking about the claim and Mr Raub had traced a map of the county on the ground to show the exact location of his claim. He looked up and saw his sister reel, and she asked him to keep her from falling. He threw his arms about her and carried her into the house to find that she was dead. Mary Raub Ward was 46 years old and was born in Tippecanoe county. Her health had been impaired for months. She went to the Home hospital to undergo an operation, but her condition would not permit it. Her death was caused by heart trouble. Mrs. Ward is survived by her husband and the following children: Henrietta, Melvin, Grace, Elisabeth and Mary. She also leaves three sisters and three brothers. She was a member of the Methodist church and was admired for her womanly qualities. She was a devoted wife and mother and was a true friend. Her death has caused much regret. The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the home, conducted by Rev. Grant Teeters. The interment was made in Grandview cemetery. - kbz
