Funeral services for Clayton S. Ward, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bright Funeral Home, with Rev. Wayne Markward in charge. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Ward who lived three miles southeast of Crawfordsville, died early Thursday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. A brother, Kenneth A. Ward, had died Wednesday morning at his home near Whitesville. A son of Ulysses Grant and Clara Sanders Ward, he was born in Crawfordsville on April 23, 1896. He was married to Helen R. Rhoades on Sept. 7, 1922. She died Oct. 1, 1962. Mr. Ward attended the Whitesville school and was engaged in general farming until he retired in 1961. He was a member of the Whitesville Christian Church and its willing Workers Class, a 50-year member of Ladoga Lodge 187, F&AM, the Scottish Rite, Kiwanis Club, Montgomery County Farm Bureau and Ladoga Barracks 1164 of World War I Veterans. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joe Timmons of Crawfordsville; a son, E. Grant Ward of Lynchburg, Va.; a brother, Gordon M. Ward, and twin sister, Marie Ward, both of Crawfordsville, and five grandchildren, David Ward and Debbie, Tom, Belinda and Becky Timmons. He was preceded in death by the brother and by a sister, Mrs. Nora Groendyke.
