Monsignor Henry F. Ward, 82, resident of
Howard County and former pastor of Catholic churches in Otterbein and
Crawfordsville, died Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center in
Kokomo. He served as assistant pastor of the former St. Vincent's Parish in
Logansport from 1944 until 1948., He was
at St. Charles Catholic church in Otterbein and the mission church at Barrydale from
1948-1958 and was pastor of St. Bernard's Church in C'ville from 1956 until his
retirement in 1977. He was born Jan 16, 1909 in Indianapolis. He was preceded
in death by his twin brother, Thomas. The Rev. Ward was raised in Kokomo and
attended St. Patrick's School and Kokomo HS. He attended St. Joseph College at
Rensselaer, Loyola University in Chicago, Milford Novitiate in Milford, Ohio
and St. Meinrad Seminary. He was ordained in Ft. Wayne June 3, 1944 by the late
Bishop John F. Noll. He became a priest in the Lafayette Diocese when it was
established in late 1944. Pop Paul VI designated him a right reverend monsignor
on Dec 16, 1963. He was invested with
the title by Bishop John Carberry Feb 20, 1964. The Rev. Ward served as
Moderator of the Apostleship of Prayer, was a diocesan consultor was a former
dean of the Lafayette Deanery and was a former business manager for the
Lafayette Sunday Visitor. He also was a member of the Diocesan Vocations
Committee and in 1959 was state chaplain of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving is
a sister, Elizabeth Ward. Funeral Mass
