Charles Warbington aged about 55 night engineer at the Wire & Nail Mill died at Culver Union Hospital at one o’clock this morning as the result of being struck by the metals and parts of the great engine at the mill when the piston rod broke, driving the piston and cylinder head out of the engine and across the mill.  Mr. Warbington was seated within two feet of the cylinder head. When the 3” rod broke, he was buried 15’ through a partition. The great piston head and road falling near him.  Mr. Warbington was picked up for dead by the employees of the mill.  He was placed on a cot and taken into the office. He recovered his faculties and was able to recognize his associated before the arrival of the physicians. A superficial examination at the mill revealed that his right leg was badly crushed and perhaps the hip bones. His right arm was cut and head bruised. The accident occurred about 10:30.  Mr. Warbington was hurried to Culver Union Hospital where a more thorough examination revealed that six or seven ribs were broken on the right side and nearly as many on the left.  His right leg was broken in two places, one bone in his left arm, was broken, his right ankle was also broken and he had suffered a severe wound on his head. The ribs from the right side had been drive into the lungs and his vineral organs were penetrated and torn. Notwithstanding his injuries, the man preserved his faculties and knew something of his terrible condition.  His wife was called to his bedside and all the attention was given that could be rendered. He passed away at 1 o’clock.  Charles Warbington was a very likable man.  He was reared in this county and had a wide acquaintance among all classes. He was genial and affable and was much respected by the men at the mill.  He is survived by his widow, who is prostrated at the awful calamity that came to her in the night. The noise made by the explosion was terrific. It awakened the inhabitants for squares around. The great engine was the main source of power for the plant and it is thought that it will be a week before the repairs can arrive and the parts replaced.
