NEW ROSS – Ralph D. “Pappy” Waltz, 80, of Rt. 1, New Ross and formerly of Linden, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville where he had been a patient for three weeks. He had been in ill health for about one year. Mr. Waltz retired in 1962 from Tipmont REMC, for which he had been a lineman. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Born May 5, 1894 at Hume, Ill., he was a son of William R. and Susan Ellen Hahn Waltz. He was married to Jeanette Mason of Crawfordsville on June 29, 1917. She survives. Mr. Waltz lived at New Ross since 1961 and prior to that lived at Linden for 20 years. Surviving with the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Elsie) Bedrick of Indianapolis, Mrs. Jones (Naomi) Halsey of Brownsburg, and Mrs. Mac (Gladys) McCay of Linden; four sons, Ralph W. “Bud” of New Ross, Donald G. of Rt. 1, Crawfordsville, Ernest “Junior” of West Lafayette and Allen of Melborn, Fla.; a brother, Alonzo E. of Indianapolis; a sister, Mae Clark of Newman, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Helms Funeral Home at Linden with the Rev. Dr. Henry Oakes officiating. Burial will be in New Ross Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday. – jlr
