Louisville, Ky Aug 25 – Three Indiana National Guardsmen were killed and 18 other soldiers were injured when an army motor truck overturned on the Dixie Highway near Camp Henry Knox tonight. Those killed were Privates Oscar Marshall, William Petrie and Harvey Walton, all of Ladoga, Ind and all members of Company L, 151st Infantry. The truck was carrying the men from the camp rifle range when the accident occurred. The Indiana guardsmen injured were: Sgt TW Bailey, Martinsville; Corporal Charles Polling, Martinsville; Pvt Paul Gray, Ladoga; Harold Garrison, Ft. Wayne; Lloyd C. Cloud, Mishawaka; Onias Dickey, Linden; Dewey McCall, Crawfordsville; Harry L. Davis, Crawfordsville; Kenneth Waldrip, Ft. Wayne; Caleb Howe, Warsaw; Newell Sheets, North Salem; Clyde Collins, Ladoga; James Worrell, Ladoga; John Gray, North Salem; John Simmons, Linden; Joseph Conrad, Linden; Ward Wheeler, Linden; Quinley Elkins, Milford and Eugene Lockhart, Martinsville.  The men, part of a picked detail, had been shooting on the rifle range and were on their way back to Camp Knox when the accident occurred. Capt. Harry Woods, of Martinsville, commander of the company although not injured in the accident, suffered a nervous collapse shortly afterward and is confined to his bed. The injured were removed to the base hospital at Camp Knox.  Passengers on the truck were members of Co K and L, 151st Infantry and Companies I and K, 152nd Infantry of the Indiana National Guard. The accident occurred, reports from the camp said when the driver of the truck blinded by blaring lights of an approaching automobile pulled too far to one side of the road. The road weakened at one side by rains gave way and the truck rolled down a 15’ embankment. The bodies of the dead guardsmen will be sent home tomorrow morning.

--- Investigations made last night indicate that the three dead guardsmen are: William Petrie, Ladoga; Oscar H. Marshall, Waveland and Harvey J. Walton, North Salem, all members of Co. L, 151st Infantry.  Meagre information received locally indicated that Petrie is the son of a farmer, William Petrie, living near Ladoga and that Marshall is the son of Mrs. Susan Marshall of Waveland.  In addition to his mother, he is said to be survived by three sisters, Mrs. Fredia Hill, Mrs. Maude Fuller and Laverne Marshall of Waveland and two sons, Clyde Marshall of Waveland and Guy Marshall believed to be living in the vicinity of New Market - kz
