Harold B. Walters, 61, of Rt. 1, New Ross, city-county health sanitarian and first winner of the Tim Sullivan Memorial Award as state's outstanding sanitarian was fatally stricken Tuesday night at his residence. Born at New Ross Aug 22, 1908, he was a son of Frank and Rose Scott Walters. He was married in Crawfordsville on July 7, 1928 to Pauline Randel who survives. Also suriviving are a son, Robert L. Walters of New Ross; a daughter in law, Mary, 5 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Opal Shoaf of Crawfordsville. A sister and two brothers preceded Mr. walters in death. He was a member of Whitesville Christian Church, the Ben Hur Court here and Indiana Society of Pioneers. He served as city-county health sanitarian since 1957, enforcing state health regulations. Prior to this Mr. Walters operated for 4 years the Ben Hur Home Dairy and later was superintendent of the home and dairy 7 years. Afterward he became city milk inspector, serving in this capacity 6 years. He was a registered professional sanitarian and in 1962 received the Sullivan Award for the Indiana Public Health Association. Mr. Walters served as a director of the County Health Council, Indiana Association of Milk & Food Sanitarians and Indiana Public Health Association. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Rev. Tyler Soine will officiate with burial in New Ross Cemetery.
