Walden - John

John WALDEN was found dead near the end of the switch on the south side of Yeddo. His head was torn off and had been completely worn out over the ties, his brains scattered for forty yards along the rail. His body so badly crushed that it could only be identified by the clothing and some papers found in the pockets. Walden was said to have been drinking on Saturday, and it was supposed at first that he had started home on Saturday night and a south bound train killed him, but an examination of the body and the grounds where it was found revealed the fact that a hole was cut through to the inside just above the heart, and holes in his clothing to correspond with that in the body had the appearance of being made with a knife. The body contained but little blood and none found anywhere from where the body was struck to where it was found, and his vest was found over one mile south all covered with blood. This together with the fact that Walden had bitter enemies, one of which had made use of strong language against him is now missing, is pretty good evidence of murder. = lbz
