Watson - Forrest

Source: Waveland Independent July 11, 1930

The community was shocked on Monday afternoon to hear of the  death of Forrest, the 14 year old son of Manfred Watson, who  lives on the Hollandsburg road just south of Mt. Moriah Church.  The boy had gone in company with Mr. And Mrs. Harold Collings,  neighbors, to Big Raccoon at the McGilveray Ford, south of  Hollandsburg to swim. The rain had raised the creek, which is  very deep at that point at ordinary times. The boy was a good  swimmer but just before he went down he said he was tired and  started to swim to the bank. Mr. And Mrs. Collings made  unavailing efforts to rescue him. The coroner was notified and  the body was found after three hours. The boy was a bright lad,  considerable of an athlete and a member of the ball teams. He  would have been a junior in high school next year. Funeral  services were held on Thursday. - transcribed by kbz
