O.W. Harvey was called to Attica on Monday by the critical
illness of his sister, Mrs. Hubert Washburne, who died on Tuesday
morning. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey attended the funeral on Thursday.
Mrs. Washburne was seized about five months ago with a mysterious
malady which was at first diagnosed as rheumatism. She shortly
sank into a stupor and slept for six weeks. She then wakened and
showed some improvement but has had several recurrences of
sleeping, ending with her death. The physicians pronounced it
"sleeping sickness," a very rare disease in this country, though
common in Africa. - transcribed by kbz
