Mrs. Nova E. Vonderschmitt, 80, of Bloomington, owner of the Strand Theater here, died Tuesday in a Bloomington nursing home. Mrs. Vonderschmitt started in the business in 1917 at Washington. She owned a Crawfordsville theater and theaters at Bloomington, Greencastle, Bedford, Noblesville and Seymour. She was past president of Monroe County Cancer Society and past vice president of Indiana Cancer Society. In 1970 she received the Bloomington Kiwanis Club award for outstanding community service. Mrs. Vonderschmitt was also past national president and philanthropic secretary of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and a charter member of the Theater Owners of Indiana. She was the widow of Harry F. Vonderschmitt. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Crouch of Bloomington. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. in Allen Colonial Chapel at Bloomington with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery at Washington. Members of the family request memorials be in the form of contributions to Monroe County Cancer Society. – jlr
