Waynetown - Russell Venis, 67, of Waynetown died at 3:45 a.m. today (Jan 15, 1968) at Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville. He had been admitted there yesterday following a heart attack at home. Born Nov 17, 1900, southeast of Waynetown, he was the son of Charles R. and Bertha Switzer Venis. He was married Oct 16, 1923 in Crawfordsville to Dorothy Waters, who survives. Mr. Venis had been employed as an electrician at the Donnelley Co in Crawfordsville for 25 years. He retired in November. He was a member of the Baptist Church and had served as deacon. He also was a member of Waynetown Masonic Lodge 302 and OES 435. Other survivors include a son, James of Crawfordsville Rt 1; and Mrs. Helen Pawlak at Wauwatosa, Wisc; two brothers, Merle of Waynetown and Milton of Brownsburg; a sister, Mrs. Marie Petry of Waynetown; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma and Ida. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Servies Funeral Home, Rev. Lewis Poor officiating, assisted by Rev. Myron Hinton. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Masonic rites conducted there at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Waynetown-Funeral services for Russell VENIS were held Wednesday afternoon at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home. Rev. Lewis Poore of Charleston officiated assisted by Rev. Myron Hinton, pastor of the Waynetown Baptist Church. Music was by Mrs. Nellie Snyder, organist, who included specially requested numbers, "The Man on the Middle Cross," "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee". Pallbearers who also assisted with the flowers were Forrest Gray, Wayne Thompson, Floyd Suitors, Gene Wehner, Loren Taylor and Clyde Soards. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Wilkinson, Lynn Richardson, Vernie Harlan and Merch Erwin. Masonic rites were held Tuesday night at the funeral home with Robert Songer as acting master. Others who took part in the service were C. Rex Henthorn, worshipful master; Billy Mitton, senior warden, Lowell K. Stockdale, junior warden; Claude Cord, treasurer; Alford Austin, secretary; Donald Proctor, senior deacon; Norman Cramer; junior deacon; Harold Bratton; senior steward; Clyde Bolus, junior steward; Russell Harris, tyler. Burial was in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
