Capt. Willard B. Venable, a former member of the battalion staff, Crawfordsville National Guard unit, died Monday morning at Veterans Hospital, Indianapolis, after an illness of eight weeks. He was a resident of Noblesville. Capt. Venable, 43, served in Crawfordsville from April 1, 1952, until the unit was reorganized Feb. 1, 1959. He was then transferred to the newly organized unit at Noblesville. A World War II veteran, Capt. Venable served for five years in the European theater of that war. After the war’s end, he became an electrician. Survivors include his wife; five children, all at home: Arthur, 14, Sue Ann, 13, Jean, 12, James, 8, and Paul, 10 months; his mother, Mrs. Elva Kennedy of Indianapolis; two brothers, Howard Venable of Dayton, Ohio, and J. Keith Venable of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Fletcher Gipe Jr. of Sumpter, S.C., and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Coaltrin Funeral Home, Noblesville. – jlr
