Carmel – Donald C. Vaught, 85, Carmel, passed away Monday July 21, 2008. Born Nov 14, 1922 in New Market, he was the son of the late Wallace and Wilma (Fritts) Vaught. He was one of 7 brothers who served and survived WWII. Don retired as asst vice pres of claims for Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance in 1988 after 32 years. He was also a radio broadcaster at WCVL Radio in Crawfordsville. He was a board member and past pres of Indiana State Adjusters Association. In C’ville he was a member of the American Legion, school board member, deputy sheriff, parks and recreation superintendent, pe instructor and coach at St. Bernard’s Catholic School and member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He also served as the head of the Young Republicans Party for the State of Indiana during the Eisenhower admin and served on the campaign trail with Pres. Eisenhower and Nixon. Memorial services 11:30 a.m. Sat at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Carmelo. A reception celebrating Don’s life will follow at the Carmel American Legion. Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wilma; his children, Donna S (Robert) Williams; J. Michael (Jacqueline) Vaught; Donald M (Susan) Vaught and Gerald “Gary” K (Dawn) Vaught; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; his brothers, Lloyd, Wallace, Robert, John, Ernest and Edwin Vaught; and a son-in-law, Lance Bennett. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Bennett, grandson, Gabriel Vaught and 7 brothers.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Gabriel Vaught Memorial Scholarship Fun.
