Crawfordsville, Ind Nov 9 – Two girls were killed and a young man probably fatally injured here this afternoon when a passenger train on the Big Four railroad struck an automobile at a crossing. The dead: Mary Whalen, 19 and Louise VanScoyoc, 12. Leslie Van Scoyoc, 17, driver of the automobile and brother of Louise, is expected to die from his injuries. - kbz

Crawfordsville, Nov 10 – An inquest opened here today into the deaths of Louise VanScoyoc, 12 and Mary Whalen, 19 who were killed late yesterday when their car was hit by a train here. Leslie VanScoyoc, 17 was in the hospital with a fractured skull but was given a chance for recovery by the physicians today. - kbz

Crawfordsville Nov 10 – An inquest was to be held here today into the deaths of Mary L. Whalen, 19 and Louise Vanscoyc, 12, who were killed yesterday afternoon when their automobile was hit by a Big Four passenger train.  Leslie Vanscoyc, 17, brother of Loise was reported in “fair” condition at the local hospital. His skull was fractured. It was believed at first that he was fatally injured but physicians today gave him a slim change for recovery. The two girls were so badly injured tha thtey died shortly after the crash. The machine was demolished.

Crawfordsville Nov 9 – Two girls were killed and a youth was perhaps fatally injured here today when the automobile in which they were riding was struck by a Big Four eastbound passenger train at a cross. The dead are: Mary L. Whalen, 19, candy store clerk. Louise Vanscoyoc, 12, high school student.  Leslie Vanscoyoc, 17, brother of Louise, received a fractured skull and other injuries which may prove fatal. The two girls died shortly after being taken to a hospital. The Whale girl was taking the other two to the Crawfordsville High School for the afternoon session and it is believed the three failed to see the approaching train, due to sleet and rain. The automobile was demolished.  - kbz
