Mrs. S. M. [Stephen Manderville] Vanscoyoc, seventy-seven years old, died at six-fifteen this morning at her home, south Elm street, after an illness of more than a year following a stroke of apoplexy. Mrs. Vanscoyoc was a native of Fountain County and was one of the county's earliest residents. She was born on a farm a few miles east of the city in 1838 and spent her entire life in this county. Two years ago following the death of her husband at Whitesville she came to this city where she had since resided. Mrs. Vanscoyoc was the mother of thirteen children, ten of whom survive. They are Ephraim, principal of the Romney schools; Walter, a teacher in Boone county, Alpha, teaching in the Elwood school, Ed, of Martinsville, Sherman of Brush, Colo., Mark of this county, Mrs. L. O. Hankins and Mrs. Will Parks of this city and Misses Etta and Stella Vanscoyoc at home. Funeral services will be held from the late home, 1119 south Elm street, at ten-thirty Friday morning with burial in Masonic Cemetery.
