Darlington - Mrs. Emma Vannice, 84, lifelong resident of this county, died unexpectedly at hr home here at 9 a.m. Thursday. Born April 3, 1880 in the Potato Creek neighborhood, she was the daughter of W. A. and Lavina Peterson Crumm. She was married Oct 15, 1902 to Lockwood Vannice who died March 51 (sic - pretty sure it's the 15th since his obituary is in the 16th paper) 1951. Mrs. Vannice was a member the Congregational Christian Church, Darlington. In her early life she taught school a few years. The survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Della Ward of Darlington; a son, Robert W. Vannice of Rt 5, Crawfordsville; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Della Booher of Decatur, Ill. She was preceded in death by two sons, James Hubert and Lawrence Vannice, and by two brothers, Floyd Crumm and Clarence Crumm. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bright Funeral Home in Darlington. Rev. Leonard Siff, pastor of the church to which she belonged will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington.
