VanLear - Mary Cotten

Mrs. Mary E. VanLear, 83, was found dead at her home in Linnsburg Saturday. County Coroner Dr. Samuel Millis said she succumbed Friday of natural causes. She was a member of the Christian Church at Covington and later at Indianapolis. She resided in Covington until 1917 when she moved to Indianapolis. She had lived in Linnsburg since 1924. Mrs. VanLear was widely known as a seamstress, specializing in wedding gowns. She was born Oct. 22, 1884, at Pattonsburg, Mo., to James and Sarah (Alward) Cotten. She married George Edward VanLear on May 24, 1904. He died Aug. 14, 1958. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gladys King of Logansport and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Wilson of Michigan City and Mrs. Nina Hodges of Danville, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Harold Fogle officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and evening. – jlr
