VanHook - Elizabeth Ashley

Mrs. Elizabeth Ashley VanHook died at her home on Howard Street near the Cuppy Hotel on Thursday of last week, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Sunday morning at eleven, in charge of Rev. Victor Keiser. Burial at the Brick Chapel Cemetery north of Greencastle. Mrs. VanHook was born at Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky Jan 6, 1855 at the time of her death was 77 years 23 days. She spent the early years of her life near the place of her birth. She was united in marriage to FH VanHook on June 6, 1872. The young couple established their first home in Kentucky and lived there until 1891, when they moved to Greencastle, Indiana. In 1925 the husband died and shortly afterwards Mrs. VanHook moved to Waveland. She was the mother of 10 children, all of whom survive to mourn her loss - James and William of Rockville, Henry of Akron, Ohio; John and Mrs. Jeanette Stark of Indianapolis; Mrs. Della Norman of Paoli; Mrs. Mary Gibson of Bainbridge; Mrs. Pearl Davis of Raccoon and Edward and Richard of Waveland. She was a kind mother and always sacrificed for the good of her family. She never ate the bread of idleness. - kbz
