George W. Vanette, 77, of 605 Hughes St., died at 6:30 p.m. Monday in his home. He had been employed by the State Highway Department until his retirement. Mr. Vanette was a member of Youngs Chapel Christian Church and attended the First Church of the Nazarene. Born Jan. 4, 1897 at Cromwell, he was a son of Jason and Jane Benjamin Vanette. He was first married to Bessie Hole who died in 1965. Mr. Vanette later was wed to Katherine Marshall, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Gill and Mrs. Margaret Walton of Crawfordsville; a stepson, Edward Workinger of Battle Ground; a brother, Lotta of Cromwell; a sister, Bessie Miller of South Bend; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Stanley Gerboth officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. – jlr
