Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal, 22 April 1910, p 4

Mrs. Mary Vancleave, 719 south Walnut street, an aged and highly respected resident of this city, widow of Elder Matthias M. Vancleave, who was for many years the leading Primitive Baptist minister of Montgomery county died this morning at her home after a long illness, due to the diseases of old age, as she was eighty years old. Her health has been failing over the past three years, and she has been confined to her bed at intervals, but it has only been within the past month that she has been in bed all the time. She was the third wife of Elder Vancleave, who was known all over Montgomery county as the marrying preacher. Some years prior to his death he celebrated the occasion when he had joined a thousand couples in the holy bonds. It is estimated that he married over twelve hundred couples prior to his death. Elder Vancleave died about twelve years ago. Mrs. Vancleave leaves one brother, James Harris, and one sister, Mrs. Jeffries McIntire, both of New Ross. The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church. The funeral will probably occur Sunday, the positive announcement will be made on Saturday - kbz
