Ad VanCleave, 90, a former Montgomery County farmer, died Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Culver Hospital. In failing health for eight years, he had been seriously ill the past year. Born three miles west of New Market on Feb. 18, 1865, be was the; son of Ransom and Sarah Surface VanCleave. On Sept. 3, 1891, he married Ida Denman who preceded him in death in December of 1950. At one time (from 1916-25), he and Mrs. VanCleave were caretakers at the Orphan's Home. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Melvin of near Alamo; two brothers, Jont and Jesse VanCleave, both of near New Market; three sisters; Mrs. Amanda Hicks and Mrs. Betty Hardle, both of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Cornelius Airhart of New Market, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and a daughter, Edith. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Alamo Christian Church, with burial in the Alamo Cemetery. Friends may call at Profitt and Sons Funeral Home after 7 p.m.Thursday up until noon Saturday.
