Vancleave - Adam - 1912

At his home in Trenton, Missouri on Monday afternoon at six, Jan 8 occurred the death of Adam Vancleave, a former resident of Montgomery County. His death was caused by apoplexy and he had been ill for 3 days. Mr. VanCleave will be remembered by a great many of the older residences in the south part of the county. He was born two miles west of New Market 71 years ago and was a son of Jonathan and Elizabeth Vancleave. His mother died in 1886. Jonathan Vancleave, his father was a noted minister of the Primitive Baptist Church and was known by most every citizen of the county. The death of this noted elder occurred 12 years ago. Adam Vancleave was a resident of this county until the close of the civil war at which time he moved to Missouri. He was married to Miss Ellen McConnell at Trenton, Missouri in 1868. After taking up his residence in Missouri, Mr. Vancleave followed railroading. He gave up that work a year ago and had since resided on his farm. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Jonathan VanCleave of Ashland, Nb; Mrs. Nora Gelke of Antigo, WI; Stephen Vancleave, Miss Lizzie Vancleave, Mrs. Edith Keith of Trenton, Mo; William Vancleave residing on the farm. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emily Badgley of Cadillac, Mich; Mrs. Jane Coons of this city and one brother, Ransom Vancleave who resides near New Market. The funeral was held at Trenton on Wednesday afternoon Jan 10 and was conducted by Rev. Mr. Miller. Interment was made in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery. - kbz
