Dr. Charles L. Vancleave was born in Brown Township, near New Market, Feb. 9, 1867, where he grew to manhood working on a farm. On reaching manhood he chose the practice of medicine as a profession and graduated in the Eclectic Medical College in Indianapolis in 1890 and began practicing in New Market. On December 17, 1890, he was married to Dora Yaryan, of Yountsville, and to them was born two daughters, Mabel and Florence. His wife died Jan. 9, 1895 at Wingate, where he had moved in 1891. He was again married June 18, 1896, to Ethel Webb, who survives him.
On Saturday, Jan. 19, 1865, he united with the Old School Baptist Church at Indian Creek, southwest of New Market, where his grandfather, Rev. Jonathan Vancleave had so long been pastor. He died at his home in Wingate on Friday, April 8, 1898.
He leaves a wife, two daughters, father, mother, seven brothers and five sisters to mourn his loss, he being the first of a family of thirteen children to be called to the Spirit land. His funeral was preached by Rev. John L. Miller of Waynetown, and was largely attended.
Last Friday at three o’clock, Dr. Charles VanCleave, aged thirty one years, died at his home in Wingate after a two weeks’ illness from typhoid fever. He leaves a wife and two children. Dr. VanCleave was raised near New Market and had many warm friends over the county. The funeral occurred Saturday at 11 o’clock.
