Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 7 July 1899
After an illness of many months, John Ralph Vancleave passed into the great beyond. He was the third son of Ralph and Catherine Vancleave and was born March 10th, 1863 and died July 3, 1899, aged 36 years, 3 months and 20 days.
He united with the Salem Baptist Church in 1884 and continued his membership there until after moving to Elmdale. He then joined the Liberty Christian Church of which he was a member at the time of his death.
He bore his awful sufferings like a hero and made no complaint. He was united in marriage in December, 1864, to Nannie A. Vancleave, to which union was born three children, Charley, Harry, and Bertha. On January 13, 1892, death claimed his companion and his health has been failing since that time. He was taken with the same dreaded disease that robbed him of his wife. He was again married in 1894 to Etta M. Sanders, oldest daughter of James and Susan Sanders. To this union was born two children, Clifford, who died June 26, 1895, and Lennie.
He leaves his companion and four children, together with a father, mother, four brothers, four sisters, and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his death. - thanks to Sharon
