Last evening at his home on S. Water St., RJ VANCE died of general debility, having been in failing health for some time. The funeral will occur tomorrow morning from the residence and will be conducted by Rev. EB Thomson and Dr. Cunningham. Interment at the Masonic Cemetery Robert J. Vance was born near Winchester, Va. Sept 22, 1814. He lived in Vorgomoa till he was 14 years old. He then went to Ky, and came to Montgomery County when he was 19 years old. His grandfather, Maj. Beall, was all through the hardships, sufferings and battles of the Revolution. Mr. V. began clerking for his brother, Samuel in a drygoods store when 14 years old and thereafter went into partnership with him which continued for several years. and then went into business for himself. Mr. V. was in business in the city of Crawfordsville for nearly 40 years, part of the time as a grain dealer, a note broker and a general trader. He was a Mason and a deacon in the 1st Presbyt. Church of this city. His ancestors came from Scotland, and were Presbyterians for fully 300 years back, and were active in the religious troubles between Scotland and England. Mr. V. was marr. in 1843 to Martha TILDEN of Va. Her father was a physician of some note and her grandfather a physician and Presbyterian preacher. Mr. V. has 4 children living: Mrs. J.S. BROWN, Mrs. RODERICK, William and Lucy Vance. Two are dead: Mrs. AD THOMAS and Walter. In politics Mr. V. was an original Whig. He had relatives in Ky; Va; NC; Ohio and Indiana. He was a successful businessman although he met with reverses within the last few years. Mr. Vance was active, energetic and honest.
