Sunday morning, at 3 o'clock, Isaac M. Vance, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Montgomery county, died at his home on Vance street in the sixty-first year of his age. He had been sick for over a year having suffered originally from an attack of the grip which left an abscess on one of his lungs. His recovery had been despaired of for some time previous to his death. The funeral occurred on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family residence and was conducted by Rev. G. P. Fuson. Interment at the Odd Fellows' cemetery. Isaac M. Vance was born in Crawfordsville on December 2, 1832. He was a son of David Vance, one of the earliest settlers and most prominent citizens of the county. Isaac grew up here and when his father served as Sheriff and Treasurer of the county he acted as deputy. During the war Isaac was elected Auditor of Montgomery county and served two terms of four years each. In 1871 just as his second term as Auditor expired he was elected county clerk and served four years in that capacity. Since 1875 he has served most the time as deputy in the clerk's and auditor's office. He was a skillful and tidy bookkeeper and he has undoubtedly written out more of the official records of the county than any other two men. For over forty years he was a familiar figure at the court house and has been almost a part of the official life of the county. Mr. Vance was married twice and his second wife and six children survive him. He was a strikingly handsome man and his genial disposition made him many friends. He suffered reverses during his life, being at one time a very wealthy man, but during his whole public career his honesty was never once impeached or questioned. He was honest and competent and dies mourned by a host of friends. - thanks to Kim H
