VanCamp - James Edgar

James Edgar VanCamp, manager of the VanCamp Packing plant in Crawfordsville suffered an attack of heart trouble yesterday morning at 8:15 o'clock when he was walking near the Elks' home on South Water Street and died shortly after he had been taken into the home. Mr. VanCamp was carried into the home by George Fosdick; Frank Cutshaw and Orville Carroll.
Mr. VanCamp was still breathing when he was lifted from the sidewalk, but breathed his last as he was being laid on a couch. He died before medical aid could reach his side.
He was one of Crawfordsville's prominent citizens. Following his marriage to Laura Lane on October 20, 1886, he established his residence here and engaged in the retail shoe business in the store now occupied by J.F. Sullivan, clothing merchant.
Mr. VanCamp disposed of that business in 1906 and moved to Los Angeles, Cal; wher ehe remained for three years. Returning to Indiana he took up his residence at Indianapolis, coming to Crawfordsville in the year of 1913 as manager of the packing plant. He was a relative of the VanCamps at Indianapolis, owners of the plant here.
He had been in good health and his sudden death came as a shock to his family and friends. On Christmas day he was in Indianapolis where he visited with Harry Lane, brother of Mrs. VanCamp.
Mr. VanCamp was a member of the Masonic Order and was a Knight Templar.
Besides the widow he is survived by a brother, William A. VanCamp of Mobile, Ala and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Weaver of Pasadena, Cal. Funeral arrangements have not been made - kbz
