John G. Utterback, widely known Crawfordsville funeral director for many years died Friday morning at his home, 302 Park Ave. He was 82. Mr. Utterback, who had been ill for about a week was a member of several organizations. Those included First Methodist Church, Montgomery Lodge 50, F&AM, Knights Templar, the Elks and Shrine. He was a graduate of Purdue University and Waynetown HS. He taught school and farmed in Montgomery County in his early life. He retired as a funeral director in 1948. Mr. Utterback was born near Elmdale Nov 25, 1877. His parents were Albert J. and Elizabeth Gott Utterback. He married Pearle Bible in 1899. She preceded him in death and he married Doris Nace Jan 20, 1959. He is survived by his wife, a brother Ernest Utterback preceded him. Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Monday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. H Earl Moore of Lafayette officiating. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
