Mrs. Alta L. Utterback, 74 of Wingate, died Wednesday morning at a hospital in Logansport of a heart condition. Mrs. Utterback was the sister of Wingate Postmaster Gordon Stockdale. She was a lifelong resident of the Wingate area and she and her husband, Ben Utterback, operated a poultry business in Wingate for 32 years until his death in July 1962. Mrs. Utterback was a member of the Pleasant HIll Church of Christ at Wingate, the Wingate American Legion Auxiliary and Wingate Chapter OES. Born Sept 10, 1897, near Wayentown, Mrs. Utterback was the daughter of W.H. and Orilla Neal Stockdale. She graduated from Wingate HS in 1916. She married Oct 26, 1922 at Rockford, Ill. Survivors in addition to the brother are another brother, Walter Stockdale, of Durhand, Ill; four sisters, MRs. Edith Foley of Wingate, Mrs. Hallie Palin of near Wingate; Mrs. Oneta Walsh of chicago and Mrs. Opal Yetter of Indianapolis and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Utterback was preceded in death in addition to her husband by a brother, Ernest Stockdale of Wingate in 1965. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown. Burial in Wingate's Greenlawn Cemetery. - kbz
