Bert Upton received a telegram on Tuesday afternoon telling of the death of his mother, Mrs. Maria Upton, at Rose Hill, Ill. This was very unexpected as he had a letter on the previous day saying that his sister had suffered a paralytic stroke, but that his mother, who was 91, was in her usual health.
