ROCKVILLE – Sherman Vaught, a retired farmer of the
Rockville area, died Friday morning in Jackson Park Convalescent Center at
Seymour. Mr. Vaught was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church at Judson and had
served as a deacon there. He was born Jan. 7, 1881, at Somerset, Ky., a son of
Wesley and Lucy Meece Vaught. He was married to the late Mattie Barron Vaught
who preceded him in death in March 1959. He is survived by three sons, Russell
of Lovett, and Boyd and Foster of Rockville; three daughters, Opal Thomas of
Rockville, Leona Mendenhall of North Vernon and Lucy of Brazil; 20
grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; four
brothers, Ben, Sam, Charles and Roosevelt, all of Somerset, and two sisters,
Lena Wheeler of Somerset, Ky., and Florence Nelson of Rushville. Funeral
services will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at Dowd Funeral Home in North Vernon. There
also will be 2:30 p.m. church services Sunday at Goshen Baptist Church. Rev.
Donald Knoy will officiate at both services. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery
near Marshall. – jlr
