John T. Tribby died at his home one mile east of New Richmond, Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 1896, after an illness of five weeks. The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. Spohn.
John Tribby was born in Nicholas County, Ky., June 30, 1844, and came to this state when about 16 years of age. He was married to Maria King, March 27, 1869. She with their two sons and daughter, Charles, Harry, and May, survive him.
He early united with the Methodist Church and lived an exemplary Christian life, and expressed himself fully prepared for the change that must come to all and with that blessed assurance, “it is well with my soul.”
The deceased was well and favorably known and a large number of friends were in attendance Thursday to pay their last sad tribute of respect to all that was mortal of the departed one, and to drop the sympathetic tear with those who were bereft. After having tasted of the joys and pleasures of this life and endured the hardships and cares, he has gone to gain his reward and to dwell forever with the redeemed and purified. No more sorrow, no more sickness, but peace and joy eternal. “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed by the name of the Lord.”
