Source: Waveland Independent, Waveland, Indiana, Friday, Sept 10, 1915

James Clayton Todd was born in Shelby Co KY July 17, 1836 and departed this life Sept 3, 1915. He came with his father to Montgomery CO IN when a child and on September 9, 1857 was married to Frances MItchell. To them were born six children, 3 of whom preceded the parents to the better world, one having died in infancy. Frank died November 23, 1895; Alfred died June 15, 1907. The surviving childrenare Mrs. Thomas Glenn of Seybold; Mrs. Susie Whittington of Crawfordsville; Mrs. CH Carter of Indianapolis; Mrs. JF Seybold of Petosky, Michigan; Joseph of Waveland and Robert of Crawfordsville. Besides the children, four brothers and four sisters survive. John, Shelby and George; Mrs. William Servies and Miss Pauline Todd of Browns Valley; Johnson of Scott City, KS; Mrs. Tillman Davis of Miami Florida and Mrs. Dr. Williams of Crawfordsville. Six years ago Mr. Todd buried his wife and after more than 50 years of happy wedded life he was left to pass the remaining years alone with his children. Last May he was taken ill at the home of his daughter in Terre Haute; and a few weeks ago was removed to the home of Mrs. Whittington in Crawfordsville with whom he had made his home for some time past. Although his suffering was intense for almost four months, he bore it very patiently and the end came peacefully. During their early married life Mr. and Mrs Todd united with the Primitive Baptist Church at Union, where they remained consistent members until their work here was finished. The children have bravely and cheerfully tried to lessen the father's loneliness since the mother's death, but his interest in life was gone and he was ready and anxious to be reunited with the companion who had for so many years shared his joys and sorrows; and while our loss is keenly felt, we know his sufferings are ended and would not call him back to this world of sorrow and care. Funeral services were held at Union Church on Sunday afternoon in charge of Elder Oliphant of the Primitive Baptist Church. - kbz
