Advance – Guthrie C. Tipton, 87, of Indianapolis and formerly near Advance, died Tuesday in Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born July 7, 1893, at Shelbyville, Ky., a son of Charles W. and Minnie F. Wise Tipton. He was married Dec. 15, 1923, to Margaret E. Wood who preceded him in death. He was a member of the Advance American Legion, worked for the Boone County Highway Department, attended schools in Kentucky and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps in World War I. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lorena M. Young at Indianapolis, several nieces and nephews. Services will be in Porter Funeral Home at Jamestown at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Harlan Kincade officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. today. --smc
