March 1, 1836, Washington Holloway was paid $8 for making a coffin for Wm. Thornton, a pauper. Wm. Morgan was paid $7.50 for keeping him. Isaac Ruse was paid $1.50 for digging the grave and Curry Herndon, $4.50 for doctoring him. Matthias Ollis was paid $37.31 for being overseer of the poor Ripley Township. - transcribed by Kim H
