Mrs. Susan Thornton died at her home on East Green Street, Monday, March 18 after a lingering illness with consumption. The body was laid to rest in the Methodist Cemetery after funeral exercises at the church, conducted by Rev. L.F. Galey. Susan Dow Clark was born at Mt. Carmel, Fleming County, Kentucky Dec 13, 1833. While she was an infant her parents removed to Indiana, settling in Putnam County, near Russellville. she married Joseph Thornton, Dec 30, 1850 at Greencastle. Six children were born, 5 sons and one daughter. Three of the sons, William, Albert and Ernest are living. She joined the Methodist Church at the age of 15 and has lived an earnest and faithful Christian life, beloved by all who knew her. Although a sufferer for years, she bore her afflictions with fortitude. Among those in attendance were Mrs. Mary Dryden, of Russellville, a sister, Will Thornton and wife, and Albert Thornton of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Pearl Brand of Mulberry, Ind a granddaughter.
